---------------------------
The symposium inaugurates
the Centre for Practice as Research in the Arts
at University College Chester
Practice as research has become one of the most important areas
of development in the creative arts;
the Centre aims to support and develop practice-based research
by providing an intellectual, creative and organisational resource
for its own researchers, and a venue for the exchange of ideas
and dialogue with individuals and institutions at local, regional, national,
and international level
The symposium will address the contextualisation of practice
as research at a number of levels;
as an area of investigation in its own right;
as an issue affecting the work of practitioners
and academics in various subject areas;
and as a growing part of postgraduate research
in the creative and performing arts
