INNOVATIVE INTAGLIO, AUGUST 2004
International summer courses at Gracefield Arts Centre in Dumfries,
Scotland, UK
with leading printmaking researchers Prof. Keith Howard, RIT, New York
& Friedhard Kiekeben, University College Chester
A unique opportunity to learn the latest innovative acrylic resists etching
methods directly from the artist-innovators, Keith Howard and Friedhard
Kiekeben, in the welcoming environment of Gracefield Arts Centre. Work
side by side with top printmakers from around the world.
Keith Howard is the author of ‘The Contemporary Printmaker’ and Head
of Printmaking & Research at the Rochester Institute of Technology,
New York, the latest edition of which will be presented during Innovative
Intaglio. Friedhard Kiekeben, artist and senior lecturer at Chester
College, has developed a new system of safe etching processes and
his etched sculptures, prints and installations are shown internationally
(also see: 'Perfect Chemistry; Printmaking Today, Sumer 2004.')
The intaglio methods presented during the workshops vastly expand the
vocabulary of fine art print processes whilst eliminating health hazards
(as proven by scientists). Tutorials include: Newly painterly and
sculptural approaches to etching, The Innovative Metal Salt Etching
processes / The Orono etching resist / The acrylic resist print studio and
its chemistry / New water based inks / Exploring the very latest ImagOn
Ultra techniques (reprographic and hand drawn mark making) / Digital
intaglio techniques & Making halftones and more.
The courses are suitable for printmaking professionals and other
artists.
