Passing on information for those interested,
Ad Stijnman.
A conference is being organized by the AIC Book and Paper Specialty Group
(BPG) and Northumbria University in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England. The
conference date is September 5-7, 2007. Please look for a ³Call for
papers² that will be issued next year.
The purpose of the conference will be to bring together an international
group of professionals who study and care for printed media by addressing
the interests of curators, conservators, historians, and librarians. The
conference will build on the traditional printing techniques because the
term ³print² will be broadly defined. This will allow a wider discussion of
printing history because it will possibly include artworks, posters,
commercial processes, prints that imitate photographs, maps, illustrations,
text, and computer-generated media. In this way the organizers hope to
explore the history of printed media as thoroughly as possible. In
addition to printing techniques and materials, presentations might possibly
explore the context of production with presentations on printers or
printing as a business. Subsequent additions like paint, mounts or
historic housings are within the realm of the conference topic.
Conservation treatments and analyses also lie within the conference
parameters.
