Dear Fil
Yes, of course we use different languages to illustrate different things - and we do so with great subtlety. The culture of indifference to certain orders of information is a problem of all professions - the confusions that then arise between professions take on a double difficulty. Tufte's account of why the Shuttle should not have taken off helps locate the issues within a social narrative that seems to have a moral burden but I'm not sure it tells us how professions might overcome their misreading of their own texts.
I am happy to be a soldier in the army of in formation that attempts to overcome information blindness. I come ready with my kitbag of Lego instructions and Complete Works of the Bard.
all the best

Keith,
Engineers make things "official" with text (except for the CAD models).
But there's 'way more information that's needed to design than just CAD
models. All that other info gets captured in text. The difficulty of
understanding the text makes people stay away from it - leading to errors
