Recently I went on the one day spirometry course at the National Respiratory
Training Centre (NRTC) in Warwick. It was v.v. good and only cost £85. The
day is shared with GPs and practice nurses and very practical. I am writing
an article about it for OH journal which will be published in February.
However, as the NRTC do a number of very interesting courses useful to OH
you may want to visit their website www.nrts.org.uk and request a
prospectus. They do diplomas, degrees and masters validated by the Open
University.

re: spirometery
Would anyone out there like to share their training experience in this
field, i.e, do you have an asthma diploma etc etc or have you just done a
spiro course.....how long did your training last and was it certificated.
When testing, do you do reversals etc etc.
Please advise
Many thanks

I also use a Vitalograph Alpha which I transport to various sites. In the
past I have used a Microlab which is also a good and easily portable
machine.

Hi Susanna, the Vitalograph address is
http://www.vitalograph.co.uk/index2.html
If you check under Spirometry on the left-hand menu list you'll find it. We
have two Spirotracs in use here at Oxford University, replacing our ageing
Alpha's. All my team think they are the "best things since sliced bread",
although they are not cheap at around £1000 each, plus a computer (desktop
or laptop). However, they are the same price as a Vitalograph Alpha, also
they interface with the OPAS database if you have it. Alternatively,
Microlab spirometers are cheaper but in my opinion not as good.

Susanna, why not try a Vitalograph Pneumotrac linked to a
laptop computer?
