Hello Chloe (and All)
I'm hoping to be involved in the Government GP Pilot scheme, was to be October leading to January and probably not at all now!
My main problem is lack of OH personnel both clerical, medical and OH related professionals. I have been assured by the people running the scheme I will get support and training, and perhaps even access to increased physio for example. A senior-ish HR manager has not discussed it with his managers or unions yet and when I spoke to the safety officer (whose job may increase due to risk assessments) I get told off! Needless to say I have liaised with the people I think should know.
Unfortunately I think my biggest problem will be the lack of alternate jobs as the work is physical in nature and managers are already 'fed up' with me putting people on temporary restrictions. It is an area that needs to be addressed regardless of the pilot study. The HR manager has yet to decide what to do with people where an alternative job cannot be found and is trying to get me to say they are not fit to work so they go on sickness pay rather than usual pay and have to stay at home. Management have to agree to a strategy for employees that refuse to phone, have no access to phone, to ill to come in, or do not want to pay for a taxi as they usually come in on works transport. Unions are concerned about people who have long term illnesses or after major surgery and are worried that GP's and Consultants will be ignoree/not liaised with. There are still a lot of things to sort out. I must be mad!
Anyone from York City Council, Leceistershire Fire Service or Peugeot PSA? I believe these may have started it already.
If I do start will let you know. Chloe feel free to contact me off line, but saying this last time I said this to someone on the list unable to contact them!
Cate
