When I started in my current post, the HR dept were in the habit of
obtaining GP reports out of necessity. I made it clear that, if they
wanted an OH service that was credible to the employees, a key issue was
confidentiality of medical information. I further explained that, I
could only release information gained without consent if there was a
risk to the employee's, or their colleagues, health and safety. I also
state this when obtaining consent from the employee.
When pushed I have also advised them that, by me disclosing confidential
information without consent, my career as a nurse is in jeopardy.
Over my time here I feel they are accepting of this and I have not had
any problems (to date).
If you want to discuss further you can call me today on 01603 478344.

Subject: confidentiality policies
I'm having challenges !! with my HR department re confidentiality and
reports etc. I have talked to them, given them written guidance eg FOM
and
NMC guidance and they still insist that I am being "obstructive" in not
passing on information to them without consent.
Is anyone willing to show me a copy of their confidentiality policy so
that
I can try and create something without trying to reinvent another
wheel ....especially as I am fast running out of hair to pull out ??
By the way this may be my 1st posting - this forum is excellent - and as
I
am on the look out for work I find the job info of great interest.
take care
Shelley
