Following on from Greta's response:
I am responding to your question about "suitably qualified". The OHNC was
originally offered in two parts. Part 1 could be accessed by EN's and by
SRN's but part 2 was only available to SRN's. Unfortunately holding only
part 1 of that qualification does not confer specialist practitioner status.
As such, coupled with not having recent practice experience in OH, she may
have difficulty in obtaining employment with just those qualifications.
My recommendation to your friend would be to enhance her cv by obtaining
further relevant qualifications. I don't think she would be eligible for
entry to a BSc in OH Nursing but perhaps an ergonomics or a safety
qualification such as a NEBOSH diploma would prove very useful. If she does
not want to go down the safety route then something in public health, health
promotion may help her secure future employment. Alternatively dependant
upon the sector of OH in which she intends to work she could develop a
number of competencies in areas such as spirometry, audiometry, risk
assessment skills, disability in the workplace etc.
I hope this is helpful.
