I don't think anyone can stop a person from working- they simply may lose
any ill health retirement pension (money!) from the initial firm. And that
really depends on the requirements for Ill Health Retirement for that firm.
For example, for many public sector organisations the criterion for IHR is
that can no longer do the job that they are in and no other suitable work
can be found within the organisation. They can then go outside the
organisation and get a job. For many private sector firms the criterion is
that they can never be gainfully employed again. Some firm even write to
their ex employees asking if they are working , or requiring them to have an
annual medical review to see if they are still entitled.
I have come across several ex-teachers who have retired on the ground of ill
health(stress usually) and are now working elsewhere.
Best wishes,
Diane
