As I understand it one can disclose personal & medical information to anyone
one chooses. If a company asks a new applicant to complete an application
form together with a health clearance form and it does not state that it is
'confidential' or 'for occupational health use only' then there is no
reason why this cannot be done. You may ask the question as to whether
people will disclose to all and sundry - but then who is to say they
disclose all to OH? I am not aware of any research that has been carried out
to find out if there is a greater disclosure to a professional - has anyone
any evidence?
What is unethical is if we, as OH professionals, disclose information to
another person about a 'client' given to us as health care professionals -
this is a breach of confidentiality.
