What are the extreme measures?
My experience of working with unions in local authority has been varied
but generally positive. There was the odd occasion when they wished to
tape record a consultation or ask for things to be recorded in the
notes ( usually that so and so is suffering from work related stress!)
but generally responded well to reason and actually weren't that well
informed re OH issues and were happy to take advice.
They were at times able to mediate between an angry employee and the
employer with some success. They were also able to support OH in H and
S issues

Subject: Unions
I have been experiencing considerable difficulties with the Unions at my
place of work. Basically they have been trying to control medical
consultations with a view of controlling the outcomes. When they have
been
resisted or they do not like the outcomes, which actually have nothing
to
do with me, they take extreme measures.
Would others involved in Occ Health work like to share their experiences
with me and how they solved their problems.
Many thanks,
Dr. R.K. Lotay
