Dear Martin
Does this mean every single person who wears latex gloves?! Which are the
guidelines or document that recommends yearly respiratory surveillance ? Is
it an HSE document or DoH or what? Thanks ?

I have recently reviewed the health surveillance policy and procedures for
my Trusts.
We no longer undertake respiratory health surveillance for
methylmethacrylate.
COSHH 2002 and the associated ACOP on asthmagens as well as the referenced
document - asthmagens, a critical review..... are the reference documents.
Methylmethacrylate is not considered to be an asthmagens and so RHS is not
strictly required in Legislation.
Methylmethacrylate is however an irritant and skin sensitiser and the
recommendation is that anyone with contact should have skin surveillance -
this can be performed by a responsible person, such as a manager with
referral of any concerns to occupational health.
This information may not reduce the need for respiratory health surveillance
in these workers as I could bet money they are using latex gloves.
Respiratory health surveillance on a yearly basis is now recommended for
those with latex exposure.

Becky,
Yes I am in the NHS, but more so for the PCT nowadays. The only people
exposed were those working in the labs making prosthetics, hence only 3.

Glenn
