At my establishment we have all first-aid training conducted by the West
Yorkshire Ambulance Service (WYMAS) who provide us with a very good
service. Our Learning Centre liases with WYMAS and arranges training when
the need arises. This also removes a lot of the administrative detail
form OH. I could not justify doing the training in-house due to time
commitments.

I am aware of one free lance OHA who does first aid training, and I
examine for an independent firm of FA providers, mostly for employees of a
large City Council, which has an active OH department.
In many organisations organization of first aid training is not an OH
function, but a safety function.
A university I recently worked at outsourcers all FA training to St
John/Red Cross.
If you have limited time it makes sense to give this tasks to others who
are doing it constantly and expertly, leaving you to use the expertise
that you uniquely have as an OHA for OH work.

Subject: First Aid training
Hello all,
I know I may be jumping the gun a little, but a possible change to the
First Aid at Work regs on the recent discussion document was to have
yearly updates.
An an OHN within the NHS, aswell as a First Aid instructor and
examiner, this has significant consequences on both time and workload
should this change come into force.
My question is do any other OHN's 'buy-in' trainers for First Aid, and
if so is this cost effective? I'm concerned as I have a terrible vision
two years down the line of teaching and assessing First Aid on an almost
constant basis. This will be an expensive way to do this, and will not
enhance my work and role either.
