Dear All
Those comments remind me about my first OH job in 1985,
after having obtained my OHNcert from Manchester in 1984.
I was covering maternity leave and had to persuade that OH
was about prevention and being pro-active and that my time
would be well spent understanding the work processes and
looking at ways of improving things, by frequent walkabouts
talking to employees etc.
It is more about introducing change and listening to what
the company feel are the issues and why they do what they
do, and then you explaining what positive changes you could
make, particularly re. assistance of absence management. I
would always suggest a review period to see whether what you
are offering is what the organisation need, but recognising
that change is like a climbing a mountain, not always able
to go the same route.
Cheers
Clare
