During my travels in the Middle East it was my observation that 'French'
type toilets were pretty universal and water was used for cleansing the
nether regions after voiding bladder or bowel (that's as delicate as I can
put it). When we stayed in Moslem homes we were provided with boxes of
tissues because they did not have toilet rolls but acknowledged our
differing habits.. They do of course also wash pre-prayer. One of my
abiding memories is of a line of passengers from a long distance coach in a
car park in Iran, marching sedately towards the public lavatories each
carrying their private jug. Water was of course on tap in the buildings and
the jug was the method of application. However, we have employed a great
many Moslems in our factories and they seem quite happy to use the standard
water closet. What they use for cleansing is open to conjecture - we have
never ventured to ask and they have never offered comment. When I was
working in the hospital's local A & E department the Moslem doctors simply
vanished into empty rooms with basins of water to ablute and presumably
pray. Again no requests for special arrangements were ever made. I presume
therefore that they follow the maxim of "When in Rome!" I hope that helps?
