I would certainly dispute the statement that older people don't have as much
absenteeism and sick leave. Our stats show that the older the age group the
higher the absence and we are a low risk office environment!
Our policy relating to Working past normal retirement age is based on
capability and performance with the added catch fence of medical assessment
and information for those that do have medical conditions - this includes
those people which could potentially be covered by DDA and we would be
discriminating if we didn't take that into account.

Subject: Re: Over 65's health assessments
Thank you to you all who took the time to respond to my querie regarding
the above issue.
I would agree with you all who suggest that any assessment should be based
on capability and performance and NOT age.
I did receive an interesting and enlightening comment regarding absenteeism
in older people, as below.
"Information from companies which currently have policies of employing
older people suggest that such employees have a lower rate of absenteeism
and sickness. This may be because the group of older workers employed are
self-selected by their motivation and relatively good health."
Great to hear from you all - and I hope to continue for many years to
come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Regards
Donna
