Good question Marianne,
We only accept UK results at the moment for Hep B, this is the decision of
our Microbiologist.
If it was my decision I would be inclined to accept EC, North American,
Ausie/N Zealand, Japan, Israel etc as long as they were in English or easy
to understand.
I am not aware of any guidance on the accepting of foreign Lab reports, I
would be very grateful if anybody has any ideas.

Dear All
I'd like to ask a very similar question with regard to overseas
medical students and doctors, here in UK to work or carry out clinical
placements Those of you who provide OH for such staff, what proof if any do
you accept from overseas medics about Hepatitis B antibody/ antigen levels
and what if any proof do you accept regarding recent heafs or Mantoux if
they have no BCG scar? That is do you accept any proof from overseas labs or
doctors or do you insist on UK lab results and testing yourself? Thanks for
any help you can give

Subject: Hepatitis B
Dear all,
Can I start another trail of discussion. I'm invovled in paper
screening agency nurses who are placed in the NHS, to ensure vaccinations
etc are up-to-date. My question relates to the level of evidence that NHS
colleagues accept as a positive result for Hep B.
At present, the standards from the agency are that I have to see
either a laboratory report or other official report from GP/OH dept with a
titre level over 100, but it must be dated within 5 years. (Some of you may
already be aware of this through contact with these nurses asking for copy
of results). However I am also aware that some Hospital/Trusts are taking an
alternative view - providing a positive responspe has been seen then no
further levels are needed. I have been directed towards the DOH guidelines
as well. The latest date for reissue of the'green' book is June, so the
bible is unhelpful.
Basically, my question is - what do you do, and where do you source
your best practice from? I can discuss changing standards with the agency
but need to be able to justify the change.
Many Thanks
Kim
