Do you have a list of constituents of the paint. For me this would be a
starting point to see if there is anything in the paint that might trigger a
reaction of some sort or possibly explain what is happening. As the painting
is outside and she is inside any exposure is likely to be minimal, since any
volatile substance would almost certainly dissipate in the ambient air and
what could get into the room would be at an extremely low concentration
unless, as has been suggested, there was some sort of ventilation intake
that was drawing in a vapour.
I agree that the symptoms do not suggest an allergy and I would be very
surprised if testing for this would reveal anything at all. If you care to
let me have a list of constituents I will see if I can shed any further
light on this.
