Pauline,
I had a similar situation recently, where I became aware of some contractors
who needed hep b and other vacs as they were working in our estates dept
with sewerage and water. I advised the estates manager that they were at
risk and that I would vaccinate them for a fee and he then passed this info
onto the contractors manager. As yet, I have not received any further
communication. I considered it not to be our responsibility to meet the
costs of this. Companies/agencies should not be placing their employees into
areas where such risks have not been assessed and minimised, and it should
be their responsibility to meet costs involved with this.
Regards
Naz

Subject: Re: -Health Surveillance of Contractors
Hi,
Can anyone help, we are due to do our annual health surveillance checks on
our night workers, this includes Lung function tests as the majority of
staff are involved in soldering. We have a number of contractors who are
also doing the same job, I have checked with their agencies re pre-
employment or screening tests and they only carry out a paper medical
screen. Is it our duty then to perform a base line lung functionprior to
starting their job and should I involve them in our health surveillance
programme?
thanks
Pauline
