A reference to noise and hearing loss ,in this article (page 3) states that
the noise levels during removing a plaster cast can be 88.0-95.2 dBA

Some sites I have visited advocate hearing protection for the patient,
especially children who may be alarmed by the noise. One USA site gave
instruction on how to soak off the cast at home before visiting the doctor..
one way to reduce everyone's exposure..
(providing the bone has healed of course!)
