Hi
We allow employees to have time off for hospital appts. and emergency GP
appts. As many of the staff work flexi time they are expected to take
normal GP/dental appts in flexi time. This sounds ok till you realise that
your GP's etc don't live in the area you work as many travel miles from home
to base. So they loose the time at the appt and then have to travel 20 -
30miles to work therefore loosing two periods of time. It is often
difficult to book an appt far enough ahead for a GP to fit into work
commitments.
It does seem strange that we were merrily putting up posters for mens health
week yet because of the time men(and now women ) work it is becoming
increasingly difficult for a workforce to fit in appts. Most Gp's and
Dentists do not have either early or late appts. i.e. before 08.00 and after
18.00. In fact the appt hours seem to be getting shorter. Has any thought
gone into this situation I wonder.
Sue
