Have you tried HR? they are usually involved and I do know our HR have a
policy to make sure that no-one visits alone and that the base know where
and how long they will be out. A neutral site is also a good idea if at all
possible. This is as a result of incidents where staff have been put at risk
during home visits - not necessarily due to the person they were visiting.
Both firearms and knives have been used against staff on home visits. Not a
very pleasant experience.

Jackie

Donna,
We don't have a procedure for this in our OH Dept - have you tried your
local GP surgeries? If you're in the NHS you could try your local policies
files - I'm sure you'd find this there. It may be under lone working policy.
Regards
Naz

Subject: Home visits
Hi Folks
I appreciate and am aware that home visits are not a routine function of
OH and do not wish to start a debate on this issue. However, I would be
grateful if any of you out there could share any of your home visits
procedures with me or know of any health visitors/district nurses/GP's who
follow a specific procedure for home visits.
As an OH provider, we are asked on occasions to undertake home visits, and
are in the process or reviewing our procedure, taking into account both
staff safety and client need.
I look forward to hearing from you as always
Regards
Donna
