Hi folks
Greta interested in your comment that you couldn't even find the
Hanasaari model and that you never understood it. I looked into models
for OH nursing and found 12 different models for occupational health
nursing. The majority of them have their origins in the USA but there
are three that are UK based (not including Hanasaari as it was not
research evidence based despite what some might think) . Because if one
looks back into the history of how that model was conceptualised the OH
nursing profession as a group was never fully consulted at the time and
therefore it was an conceptual model rather than researched evidence
based.
The following might be of some use and the critique that Chang does on
models including Hanasaari in her PhD is excellent and that model along
our own one (West et al 2001) may be worth a looking at as they are
research evidence based models and therefore more than conceptual models
and might mean more in practice. But I think that all depends on the
working context. As Hanasaari was not research evidence based but the
following are.
Yoo. K. H.. Aashworth. P. M. & Boore J.R.P. (1993) Expectation and
evaluation of occupational health nursing services, as perceived by
occupational health nurses, employees and employers in the UK published
in the Journal of Advanced Nursing). Yoo wrote this paper based on her
PhD.
Chang (1994) "Factors Influencing Occupational Health Nursing Practice"
PhD Thesis. This was an excellent piece of work.
West.B.J.; McBain. M. Macduff. M. & Lyon. M. (2001) "Occupational Health
Nursing in Scotland: Scope of Practice and Future Continuing
Professional Development.
Yes I could share what I have found on models for occupational nursing
with this group but I already feel I have given more than enough and
since I work as a part-time nurse researcher and since research is
always given such a low priority especially within the world of
occupational health why I should I want to do this for free?
However if Marjorie you can contact me directly on my work email address
which is [log in to unmask] I could send you either a the full report
or the executive summary of the West et al 2001 work of which I was one
of the researchers I would glad to do so as it might be of some use to
you.
