Margaret,
I sit within the safety team managed by the safety manager ,who sits within
the engineering team reporting to the site engineer.Until may last year I
was part of the HR team but due to restructuring was moved. In fact within
16 months I had been managed by 4 different managers I do'nt think they
knew what to do with me!.No clear rationale except the safety manager feels
OH sits better where we are now.No consultation with me, apparently Safety
and HR had been in discussion for 6 weeks before making the decision and
telling me .I was none to pleased.
This has caused conflict at times "I do'nt want you doing more work for HR
than for Safety" ,problems have arisen in my dealings with HR the
communication is not so clear with some of the HR team who are new to the
role and see me as being nothing to do with them .From my experience I can
see I can sit in either camp but found less restriction and questioning
when part of HR.
I cover all local sites ,our UK sales force, and support one site in
Yorkshire and one in Lancastershire, Safety find it difficult accepting the
cost and HR say if you want a service expect to pay for it!
We are a global company but every site appears to do their own thing.
I hope this is a help.
