Jacqui,
If the appropriate monitoring was undertaken and there was no significant
exposure noted, it's difficult to say if current infertility is reated to
exposure - Even NRPB would be hard pressed to state that it's a direct
relationship. I worked in a Nuclear Medicine Departmentboth before and
during pregnancy and had no problems at the time or with a later pregnancy.
I handled radio isotopes daily and we didn't wear lead aprons - we used
syringe shields and wore monitors. Care and use of prescribed measures in
handling usually made exposure below any lower limits of exposure.
The only place I could think of for referral would be the NRPB - they should
have historical records for monitoring and research based info for further
guidance.
Regards
Jackie

hi all
a chap called today to ask for my advice.... his wife has worked in her
teens as a radiography helper and was in with patients having invasive
investigations daily for several hours at a time(Ba Enemas and the likes)
wore the usual PPE (lead coat/thyroid collar) and monitor (film badge),
apparently no significant exposures. they have under gone investigations
into fertility problems and everything with both is ok and she is now
convinced that the radiation exposure has caused their problmes and wants
to know how they find out if she has conception problems because of this.
(both in their late 20's trying for 8 years)
having worked in an xray dept for a while i am familiar with ppe/its use
and misuse but short of directing them to the NRPB i dont know what else
to offer....anyone got any suggestions?
jacqui
