Subject: Training resouces
I am going out to the Limpopo province ( located in the north of South
Africa) to undertake some voluntary work for a South African charity. I will
be running some basic health and safety and first aid training courses. I
ran a similar course last year, the majority of the delegates did not speak
English and therefore had the assistance of an interpreter who spoke the
local language. I will be accompanied by three other people, two of whom are
educationalists, who will be assisting with curriculum development of
courses to train lay people as basic health care assistants who will work
with people who have terminal (eg AIDS) or chronic illnesses or have severe
disabilities such as would result following CVA's, trauma etc.
I am now looking into purchasing a small range of videos which may be
useful. As the delegates are likely to speak very little, if any English.
The important factor is that the "visuals" are more important than the
commentary. I used the Heart start video produced by the British Heart
Foundation last time and it worked well. The material covered CPR, care of
bleeding, angina and choking. Can anyone recommend any other first aid
training videos which cover similar material to the above and also asthma. I
have been given a total of £50.00 to spend so commercially produced videos
are probably out of the question but those produced by charities will
probably be cheaper and purchasing from them supports yet another charity.
Any suggestions would be very gratefully received.
