Since dermatologists recognise even water as a skin irritant it is unlikely
that he is not in contact with irritants. Presumably he does wash his hands
from time to time using soap.
The dry flooring materials may well be a cause of loss of moisture from his
hands. Assuming that he does not handle any other chemicals, then almost any
glove will do provided that he finds it comfortable and can work in it.
However, far more important than the glove is that he should use a
moisturising lotion regularly, i.e. several times a day, at least every time
he washes his hands. I stress lotion not cream, as the thick creams that
many suppliers will try to persuade you to use can actually increase the
possibility of the skin becoming more susceptible to irritant damage and
should be reserved for use only with severely damaged skin. The lotion
should be applied sparingly - just enough to seal the surface without
leaving the skin sticky.
A further question - what does he do away from work? Remember the 8/16 rule
( 8 hours at work, 16 away ) There are many chemicals commonly used at home
and in hobbies, DIY etc. that are every bit as damaging as those found in
the workplace.
