Apologies for speaking out of turn, but but if this thread is still alive,
here are some questions it suggests to me: Do independent and decentralised
networks provide protections from intrusive surveillance, or do they make
it more likely - and ultimately widespread? Can they help to build in
safeguards? Is it enough that people are reclaiming the gaze/this capacity
for themselves? What are the implications of the fact that in certain
instances the technical cutting edge is not with governments, the
commercial sector, or academia - but with an avant garde of DIY
technologists (variously) committed to a social vision?
