Kyle,
there two websites I would like to direct you to:
EU-MEDIN website:
http://www.eu-medin.org/
This is a newly-vamped website that will useful source of information
regarding natural and other types of disasters.
and the NEDIES website:
http://nedies.jrc.it
Please note that this website is in the process of being re-done. The new
website will be launched in about 2 months. However, let me point you to a
very interesting part of the website:
1) got to the OPEN INFORMATION section
2) go to the DISASTERS tab
3) click on to PROJECTS sub-tab
you will find the main EC-funded projects found on CORDIS listed, since FP1
(1st framework programme).
If you click on each disaster on the left-hand side, you will find the EC
projects. This will then provide you information on the project and also,
about the partners of the project...thus contacts.
We have tried to organise this important information so that interested
parties can have a an idea of the amount of research going on at EU level in
the field of disaster risk reduction and to have access to information about
the project without having to go to CORDIS, which can take time.
EU-MEDIN and NEDIES are planning to wrok closely together to complement each
other. Furthermore, DG JRC, which runs the NEDIES website, is also involved
in several integrated projects on disaster risk reduction which will assist
in providing better and updated information to feed into the websites.
Best wishes,
Ana
PS They are focusing on Europe, but eventually an international dimension
will be added (depends on resources).

Subject: Re: UK Disaster/Hazards www directory?
Kyle,
nice idea but little point in having yet another new website. why not
approach Maureen (in your own department at Northumbria) to see if this
function can be hosted by RADIX, a great site hosted by your own
department! This site was initiated also by Ben Wisner, and he may have
thoughts about such an extension. it would be quite useful if it became a
wider message board, as this would encourage general use of it?
