Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in theoretical/computational chemistry
(dynamics of quantum clusters and hydrogen-bonded systems) in the group of Prof. Zlatko Bacic
at New York University, New York. The position is available immediately, but the starting date is
flexible. The initial appointment will be for one year, renewable for the second year upon mutual
consent.
Current research areas are:
(a) Rigorous theoretical description, by means of quantum Monte Carlo calculations on high-
quality potential energy surfaces, of the dynamical properties of molecule-doped quantum
clusters, for example HF dimer and HCl/DCl dimer in helium clusters [see Sarsa et al., Phys. Rev.
Lett. 88, 123401 (2002)], and the HF molecule in clusters of molecular hydrogen. The emphasis is
on the effects of quantum solvation on the vibrational dynamics of the solute, and direct
comparison with recent experimental studies.
(b) Multidimensional quantum dynamics calculations of vibrational energy levels, spectra and
vibrational predissociation of hydrogen-bonded complexes with more than four atoms, such as
water dimer, hydrated hydroxyl ion, protonated water dimer [see J. Dai et al., J. Chem. Phys. 119,
6571 (2003)].
The work in both areas involves methodological and code development, and large-scale quantum
calculations. Candidates should be highly motivated, with a strong background in theoretical
chemistry/chemical physics, have experience with quantum dynamical methods (quantum Monte
Carlo, bound-state or scattering calculations) and good programming skills.
NYU is in the heart of Greenwich Village, one of the most vibrant, creative, and historic
communities of New York City.
