Postdoctoral Appointment in Theoretical Molecular Physics
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position at
The University of Georgia to conduct
theoretical research in molecular physics for astrophysical
applications. The project, supported by a NASA grant, involves
the calculation of molecular line lists, atomic electronic
excitation by atom and molecule impact,
molecular rovibrational excitation by atom and molecule impact,
and photodissociation
for species of importance to brown dwarfs and extrasolar
giant planets (EGPs). The successful candidate will work closely
with Phillip Stancil, Tim Heil, Kate Kirby (CfA),
and Robert Buenker (Wuppertal, Germany),
for the production of such data, which will in some cases require
the computation of potential energy surfaces. The project will also
require close collaboration with Peter Hauschildt and
PHOENIX Group to test the results in advanced stellar
and planetary atmosphere models.
The position is expected to be available starting July 2004, or
soon thereafter, with the initial appointment
for one year, possibly renewable for a second or more years
depending on available funding and progress. Candidates should have
a Ph.D. in physics, chemistry, or related field. Inquiries
and applications, including a CV, statement of research interests,
and the names and addresses (no letters at this time, please)
of three references, should be addressed
(electronically if possible) to:
Prof. Phillip C. Stancil

The application deadline is May 16, 2004, but the search will
continue until a suitable candidate is identified. The University
of Georgia is an Equal Opportunity Employer. For additional
