We are anticipating several openings in our research group for Ph. D.
students in Materials Science and Engineering and Chemical Engineering
beginning Fall 2004. Opening for Ph.D. students are available in the field
of development and implementation of molecular modeling methods for study
of property/structure relationships in soft condensed matter, with
applications to polymer melts, polymer and liquid crystal nanocomposities,
polymer and gel electrolytes, polymer micelles and high energy materials.
Modeling techniques include ab initio electronic structure calculations,
atomistic molecular dynamics simulations, mesoscale models including
bond-fluctuation Monte Carlo and self-consistent field approaches, and
continuum models based upon the material point method. Many of our
modeling studies are conducted in close collaboration with experimentals
and provide students an opportunity to learn about leading-edge
experimental techniques (e.g., neutron scattering, rheology, NMR
relaxation, dielectric spectroscopy) currently being applied to bulk
polymers, polymer interfaces and nanostructured polymer composites.
We invite interested students to contact us via e-mail at
