DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY
UNIVERSITY OF SUSSEX
Applications are invited for two postdoctoral research fellowships and
three PhD research studentships to work with Prof. A. J. Stace, Dr T. G.
Wright, and Dr H. Cox on the chemical and physical properties of multiply
charged metal-molecule complexes in the gas phase. These positions are
supported by EPSRC and are associated with a major five-year programme of
experimental and theoretical research that builds on recent successes in
this area. (See Metal Ion Solvation in the Gas Phase, J. Phys. Chem. A,

2 X RESEARCH FELLOWS (Ref 080b)
Research and Analogous Faculty Grade 1A
Fixed Term for 2 years
One Research Fellow (under the supervision of H. Cox) will be involved in
the development and application of current and new Density Functional
Theory and ab initio methods to the study of the structure, chemistry and
spectroscopy of metal-molecule complexes. The successful applicant for the
theory Research Fellow will have an opportunity to spend time in Amsterdam
and Calgary collaborating in the development of new TDDFT methodologies for
calculating UV and visible spectra. Applicants for this position should
have experience of DFT and/or ab initio methods.
A further Research Fellow will be associated with the development of new
experimental methods for generating and studying gas phase metal
ion-molecule complexes. Applicants for this Research Fellow position should
have experience in one or more of the following areas: laser
vaporisation/molecular beam methods, ion physics, or REMPI/ZEKE
spectroscopy.
Salary in the range: £18,265 to £27,339 per annum (pay award pending).
Closing date: Friday 12 March 2004.
3 X PHD STUDENTSHIPS
One PhD Studentship (under the supervision of H. Cox) will be involved in
the development and application of current and new Density Functional
Theory and ab initio methods to the study of the structure, chemistry and
spectroscopy of metal-molecule complexes.
Two further PhD Studentships will be associated with the development of new
experimental methods for generating and studying gas phase metal
ion-molecule complexes.
The PhD studentships are supported at the standard EPSRC rate. Applications
for the studentships are restricted to UK and EU nationals.
Closing date: End of June 2004.
Those interested in any of these positions should, in the first instance,
