The deadline for abstract submission to LAP 2004 is only a few days away—July 14.
LAP 2004 is the second biannual conference in a topical series, providing an
interdisciplinary forum on the use of lasers in probing materials and the study of
laser-matter interactions, including fundamental and applied spectroscopy. The
conference will be held at Argonne National Laboratory near Chicago, Illinois,
October 19-23, 2004. There will be five half-day sessions devoted to applications of
lasers in atomic/molecular spectroscopy and chemical physics: High-Resolution
Spectroscopy of Molecules and Clusters, Pump-Probe Studies of Time-Dependent
Phenomena, Femtochemistry and Coherent Control, Laser Ionization Techniques,
and Laser Trapping and Cooling of Atoms..
Confirmed speakers thus far include A. Welford Castleman, Jr. (Pennsylvania State
University), Dennis Clouthier (University of Kentucky), Marcos Dantus (Michigan
State University), Robert Gordon (University of Illinois at Chicago), Carl Lineberger
(University of Colorado/JILA), Klaus Müller-Dethlefs (York University) and Akira
Terasaki (Toyota Technological Institute).
Instructions for uploading abstracts are posted on the LAP 2004 web site at http://
chemistry.anl.gov/MSD/lap/. In the coming weeks this web site will provide travel and
hotel information. In the meantime, please feel free to direct questions and
comments to [log in to unmask], or to members of the Organizing Committee or
Program Committee listed on the LAP 2004 web page.
