Lecturer (Reader) positions in Physics/Biophysics Interface
Applications are invited for two posts in the Atomic, Molecular, Optical
and Positron (AMOP) Physics group, which is part of UCL's Department of
Physics and Astronomy. (Full details of the Department's research are
available at www.ucl.ac.uk.) The vacancies are for Lecturers to work on
experimental research, although one position may be offered at the Reader
level to a candidate who has the appropriate experience, including the
proven ability to obtain funding.
The Department has been awarded significant funds to construct new
laboratories for the AMOP group in conjunction with the relocation into
the Department of the UCL Centre for Mathematics and Physics in the Life
Sciences and Experimental Biology (CoMPLEX), an interdisciplinary centre
where biologists, mathematicians and physical scientists work on problems
of common interest. The successful applicants will participate in the
development of the new laboratories. Applications are invited from all
areas of experimental AMOP physics, but an interest in performing work at
the life sciences interface is required. Successful applicants will have
an established record of significant research and the potential to become
a leader in the field. They will also be expected to show evidence of
competence in teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level. Candidates
wishing to transfer a long-term fellowship are welcome to apply. Further
details about the posts are available here.
The salary scale will be in the Lecturer range: £22,191 to £33,679, or the
Reader range £35,251 to £39,958, including £2134 London Allowance, plus
relocation benefits.
Applications, accompanied by a full CV, including a statement of research
interests and plans, plus contact details of three referees, should be
sent to Professor B R Martin ([log in to unmask]) Head of Department of
Physics and Astronomy, Gower St, University College London, WC1E 6BT.
Informal enquiries may be made to the AMOP Group Leader, Professor J
Tennyson ([log in to unmask]).
We particularly welcome black and ethnic minority applicants for this
post, as they are currently under-represented in posts at this grade
within UCL (Section 38 of the Race Relations Act 1976 applies).
Closing date for applications is 12 March 2004.
