The Frazers Grove/Groverake complex has been standing since production at
the mine ceased two or three years back. The owner has recently started
clearing the site, but he intends to leave the two headframes standing as a
reminder of the industrial and fluorspar mining past of Weardale. The
fitting shop, shower block and offices will go, as will the hoppers. It's a
shame the whole site couldn't have been saved, but it was getting vandalised
and the owner had to do something. He deserves credit for deciding to
leave the headframes. Mine explorers would not be welcome at the mine.
Hope this information helps.
Regards, Ian
