The rapid expansion of the RAF during the Mid / late 1930s necessitated a massive storage requirement for underground storage and other ordnance. Underground sites safe from air attack were used Limestone quarries such as Linely caverns in Walsall, Chilmark Wiltshire and slate mines in Llanberris. There were many accidents such as the explosion in the Gypsum Mines at Fauld in Staffordshire killing 68 people.. Harpur Hill and llanberris are described in detail. The books provides detailed plans, numerous photographs details of military thinking and how these closed after the war. An excellent read and well written will appeal to mining Historians, Military and cold war enthusiasts alike.
