Further to the inquiry on Thomas Rickard and the information on T.A. Rickard
provided by Tony Brewis, it may be of interest to Mr. Wanner to have a look at

This is an article published in 1999 entitled "T.A. Rickard and His
California Connections". T. A. Rickard and his family had a considerable presence in
California, and this includes his grandfather, James, Thomas Rickard's father.
As stated by Tony Brewis (and Arthur Wilson), James came to California for
John Taylor and Sons in 1850.
Unfortunately the above online article does not contain the illustrations
originally published nor italicized portions.
I have presented a number of unpublished papers on T.A. Rickard and have an
extensive collection of his writings; I have recently been in touch with one of
his grandsons. Some of his writing gives some family information and I can
try to summarize this if there is interest. T.A., born in Italy, moved to
Russia as a child, and with others in his family attended the Royal School of
Mines. He came to the U.S., became State Geologist of Colorado and after some years
as a consultant, he became a well known editor and publisher.
It may be of interest that a book in my collection is by Major F. Ignacio
Rickard, published in 1863, and entitled "A Mining Journey Across the Great
Andes; with Exploration in the Silver Mining Districts of the Provinces of San
Juan and Mendoza, and a Journey Across the Pampas to Buenos Aires".
