James Treweek (1779-1851) was nothing to do with the Llandudno copper mines.
He was a Cornishman, born in Gwennap, who was from 1811 the agent of the Mona
Mine Co on Anglesey, and also ran the smelting works in Amlwch. He bought ore
from Llandudno for this works, and it is probably for this reason that one of
the main shafts at Llandudno was called Treweek's after him. There is an
account of Treweek by John Rowlands, 'Cornishmen at the Amlwch copper mines',
Anglesey Antiquarian Society Transactions (1963), pp 1-15.
