Two engine houses that still exist:
Near to the village of Moira in Leicestershire, close to a preserved furnace (now a museum), there is an engine house converted to a domestic residence at SK312150 just on the edge of Minepit (?) wood. For location, see http://tinyurl.com/273g5 This engine house was pointed out to some of us by Wes Taylor during a walk after the recent NAMHO AGM.
In the village of Cromhall in South Gloucestershire at ST692888 , there are substantial remains of the most northerly engine house of the Bristol coalfield. These remains include four walls, not all complete but still including the main arch. Nearby is the top of the shaft and a decent size spoil heap now wooded. For location, see http://tinyurl.com/2a9qz This engine house is visible from the road, but is on private property.
All the best
