Does anyone know the sinking and first day production dates for the pits
that made up the Selby Complex - i.e. Ricall, Stillingfleet, Wistow, North
Selby and Whitemoor.
Am I right in thinking that the surface screening and coal prep. facilities
at Gascoigne Wood are all that make up this site or was it ever classed as a
separate production unit within the complex as apposed to a central handling
centre. The coal prep. plant at Gas. Wood was never envisaged in plan for
Selby. The large sprawling conglomeration of modular washing and dewatering
units that were cobbled together over the years to make up the plant is no
fitting epitaph to the British coal prep. industry although the use of the
"flip-flop" type deck raw coal screens on the site is something for the UK
industry to be proud of thanks to engineers from the once company of Davy
Mckee in Stockton.
Also if anyone has some good pics. of any of the above I would be interested
in a copy of them if e-mailable.
Regards
Mark Smith
