The idea of the database (non-ferrous metal mining heritage) is to
highlight the sites of world importance before they are under threat from
redevelopment. Those that are already designated of international
importance or are already on national registers should have some form of
protection but there must be many sites which are not appreciated for their
importance in reflecting the development of mining.
There is a strong Mexican involvement in the TICCIH mines section - you
should contact Belem Oviedo Gamez at the Archivo Historico y Museo de
Mineria, in Pachuca.
