I posted some stuff about sourcing J C Burrow pictures a while ago.
I know he took at least 41 plates of Coalpit Heath Colliery in the early 20th century
So far I've found 39 of these and 6 of Easton -
There are several sets doted around the country - with an overlap in most cases
One picture is however proving very illusive (frustratingly so !!!!).
It appears in D Anderson's "Coal - A pictorial History of the Bristol Coal Industry"
He gives thanks to the following for permission to publish photographs but unfortunately he doesn't say which picture is from where/who.
- Mrs Phyliss Lane of \harwoodBolton (Widow of Jack Lane OBE)
- Divisional Inspector of Mines and Quarries in the North West
- Miss Sally Walker - Highfield Wigan
- Miss Mabel Ashton - Garswood Lancashire
- Mr John Barlow Chief Archivist NCB
- Mr Alan Daviies - Atherton (Salford Mining Museum)
- The National Railway Museum - York
- The Historical Monuments commission
- The Rev W Bynon - Vicar of Highfield Wigan
- Messrs Sothebys London
- Mr James Peden
- The Late James Beckett
Does anyone on list have any suggestions regarding who might be worth approaching and/or are able pass on any contact details.
The picture is not in the set from the Salfod Museum as these are in the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester and it is not among them.
Regards
David Hardwick
