I am a midwife working in Greenland for the last 9 years and have also
worked in Denmark for 5 years before that. I have personally experienced
2 cord prolapses. One on a Gemelli after she had received morphine for
pain. She went from 2 cm to full dialation within 20 minutes. She was a
4 para and had delivered normally before 3 children each weighing over
4300g. Gemellus A weighed 3400 g.
Both babies and mother were well after the c- section. The other was
here in Greenland when a 10. para who had spontaneous ruptur of
membranes with a preterm baby.
Both mother and baby were well after the c-section

Claudia,
I worked for 16 years in a USA tertiary care hospital in an urban area,
with
an all risk population.
My personal experience was 2 cord prolapses in over 1200 deliveries-one
came
in as such and the other from an amniotomy for a very worrisome
tracing. Both
babies and mothers were fine.
Best to you,
Janet Brooks, CNM, MPH
