Research and the internet: the case of the history of science
For more than a decade, internet sites relevant to the history of science
have proliferated in Europe and North America. These sites have made
available a wealth of new bibliographical resources and a growing number of
primary source-materials, including scientific manuscripts, correspondence,
and images. The aim of this workshop is to review a number of key European
projects in this area, with special though not exclusive reference to the
history of science, medicine, and technology, and more generally to provoke
discussion about the usefulness and historiographical implications of the
ever-closer integration of electronic resources in historical research and
teaching.
The speakers will include:
- Pietro Corsi (Université de Paris 1-Sorbonne)
- Stéphane Pouyllau (CNRS)
- Margaret Pelling (Modern History Faculty, University of Oxford)
- Nick Wilding (University of Cambridge)
- Pierre-Yves Beaurepaire (Université de Nice)
- Robert McNammee (Voltaire Foundation, Oxford)
- Robert Bud (Science Museum, London)
- Kate Jury (Oxford University Press)
- William Dutton (Internet Institute, University of Oxford).
There is no formal registration procedure and all are welcome
