Twenty Years at Albert Square: Eastenders Anniversary Conference
The Communication and Media Research Institute (CAMRI), in conjunction
with the BBC will be holding a one day conference to mark the 20th
anniversary of the launch of Eastenders. This is the latest in a series of
seminars and conferences associated with the AHRB-sponsored project to
produce Volume 6 of the official history of the BBC. In keeping with other
events in the series this conference will bring together practitioners and
academics, to assess the programme’s past and continuing place at the
centre of British broadcasting.
The day will be a mixture of plenary sessions and workshops. Suggestions
for panels and/or papers, on the following or any other theme are invited:
Eastenders and the BBC as an institution; and public service broadcasting;
and celebrity/the tabloids; and realism; and audiences; in the context of
other soaps/drama; reactions to the programme, taste/decency
