The New Media Methods Project at Loughborough University offers training
seminars on methodologies for analysis of media contents and their support
through qualitative software packages (CAQDAS).
All costs for accommodation (meals provided) will be met by the ESRC
through its Methods Programme, and via the 'New Methods' project at
Loughborough University.
There are currently a number of computer packages designed for use in
qualitative research. Social scientists increasingly need to know about
these programs and be able to operate them. They also need to know about
the limitations of such packages.
These seminars will examine the problems, issues, and benefits of using
so-called qualitative computer software (CAQDAS) in research; and the
implications such software have for different methods of analysis;
including Discourse Analysis, Frame Analysis, Content Analysis, and
Comparative Methodology.
Two seminar dates, both in Loughborough, are available:
Research Students' Seminar
18th-19th November 2004
suitable for Post-graduate Students
Researchers' Seminar
9th-10th December 2004
suitable for academics and researchers interested in methodology
There are 20 places on each seminar; the first designed for research
students; the second for more experienced researchers.
PROVISIONAL SEMINAR PROGRAMME

Analysis in media research, and the use of software in some of these
methodologies. Examples in this presentation will draw on several studies
