Apologies for cross posting

Dear MCG members
Following a meeting at the Imperial War Museum on March 15 2004 the next stage of the
development of SPECTRUM: The UK Museum Documentation Standard is underway.
SPECTRUM is published by mda: it describes and recommends best practice
procedures for museum collections and underpins the documentation requirement in the
Museum Registration scheme.
During this phase of the project four Content Working Groups drawn from across the
collections community will be focusing on how the standard can be updated so that it
continues to meet the needs of people looking after collections across the UK. As well as
improving the existing standard, groups will also be considering further additions such as
how it might be extended to encompass conceptual objects.
Work on SPECTRUM content is scheduled to be completed by the end of July.
Thereafter, the Marketing and Testing Group will examine the use of the standard, and
field test it in museums.
To find out more about the progress of work visit the mda website at:
www.mda.org.uk/specdev.htm
The new edition of SPECTRUM will be available to order in 2005.
mda is directly funded by MLA to support and interpret the SPECTRUM standard.
Best wishes
Effie Patsatzi
