I have never felt that the URL of a museum or any other organisation is
particularly relevant. When I am looking for a website I don't type in a
URL, even if I know what it is.
When I want to find a site (museum or otherwise) I use a search engine. Any
site that I use regularly is added to my favourites list and I never even
look at the URL.
As stated by other respondents the options for a .museum URL are also
inflexible, how would Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery fit into the
potential options? It is both a gallery and a museum, the word 'gallery' is
the last word in the name, and it is already 4 words plus one '&' without
adding more.
Our URL of 'www.bmag.org.uk' is not especially inspiring but the vast
majority of users come to us via search engines or other website link
pages, so how would .museum help?

Any thoughts as to why this should be?
