You have the option in preferences to choose which folder the user draws
their filters/connections/output styles from. Using the networked
version, this will default to the same place where the program is being
run from - we have customised these to suit our services and corporate
styles. i.e. change in one place, multiple effect.
The folders are read only so the contents remain consistent, but if
individual wants to do something different they can always place filters
etc. on their own pc and edit to suit their own needs.
Having customised the reference types to suit our literature and
indexing, more of a problem to us is the need to update the Windows
registry on the machine of anyone using Endnote - otherwise they won't
see the same field names.
I've produced my own simple notes based around screenshots of a specific
database we've built and base our work around, and run small group
sessions to go through the basics, but I expect you're dealing with a
much greater volume.

Subject: EndNote questions
Hi
The University has just acquired EndNote 7 and is beginning to make it
available to individuals and in a networked version using Citrix. (We
have
not had any institutionally supported bibliographic software before,
other
than some use of Procite a while ago.) Our IT Services department have
paid
for the licence and are responsible for distribution, but inevitably
library
staff will get involved in supporting it.
I'd be interested to hear how others manage the use of EndNote (or
similar
packages) in terms of training, documentation etc.
In particular I wonder how people deal with making available connection
files and import filters and generally tailoring to resources to which
we
subscribe.
(I have, of course, the UKOLUG Quick Guide to Personal Bibliographic
Software!)
Many thanks.
